  • Three Foods For Good Eye Health

Wild salmon, kale, and orange peppers are among the foods that help the eyes stay healthy due to the nutrients they contain, such as carotenoids and omega-3 fatty acids. Here is what makes these three especially beneficial to your vision.

Like all greens, Kale is rich in two carotenoids – lutein and zeaxanthin. Both of these pigments contain strong antioxidants which help to protect the retina from the harmful effects of blue light. Kale and other leafy greens are also rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene, as well as fibres and zinc. All these elements delay the development of age-related macular degeneration.

Orange peppers can also contribute to the overall health of your eyes. The vegetable is a great source of zeaxanthin, lutein, vitamins C and E, and beta-carotene – all of which are vital for maintaining healthy eyes. You can enjoy the peppers in a stir-fry, pasta bakes, salads, and any other dishes.

In general, fish is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial to the whole body including the eyes. There are two types of fatty acids, DHA and EPA, that are particularly beneficial for the health of the eyes, and they also have an anti-inflammatory effect. Scientific studies have discovered that DHA and EPA are found in abundance in cold-water fish, such as wild salmon. The two acids help protect from macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eye syndrome.
