Bausch + Lomb’s PureVision Line Grows With Monthly Lenses For Presbyopes
Bausch + Lomb, the contact lens manufacturer that is now part of Canadian pharmaceutical company Valeant, has a new product on the market. It is targeted at people suffering from presbyopia, and sells under the name PureVision2. The new silicone hydrogel lenses are multifocal and are designed for monthly wear.
Announcing the release of its new product, Bausch + Lomb said that PureVision2 incorporated a next-generation design (3-Zone Progressive) that combined better near and intermediate vision with excellent distance clarity. According to company vice president Joseph Barr, these lenses offer yet another proof of Bausch + Lomb’s commitment to innovatiion, and helping people improve their lives through better vision. For those suffering from presbyopia, it is quite a challenge to achieve consistently good and clear vision at all distances. Thanks to the new lens, however, they will have this consistency, regardless of whether they are watching a film in a cinema or viewing content on their mobile phones. Bausch + Lomb believes that PureVision2 has every chance of becoming a favourite with eye care professionals (ECPs), Barr added.
The reaction of ECPs was assessed through a recent survey, which established that more than 95% of them found PureVision2 to provide sufferers of presbyopia with clear vision at all distances in real-world conditions. The sample comprised 39 ECPs from ten countries, and their opinion was that the innovative lens design made it possible to do a predictable, quick fit. Having refitted 422 patients, an overwhelming majority (90%) of ECPs agreed that PureVision2 lenses were easier to fit compared to other multifocal contacts.
